In this guide, I’m going to show you how to exclude your Kwikset 620 Z-wave enabled lock from Home Assistant.
You may need to do this if you move houses, move the lock to another door, or have some kind of issue where the device is offline/unavailable and simply want to unpair/ pair it back to Home Assistant.
Let’s get started!
Move Home Assistant as close to Door as Possible
I’m saying this is the first step because with this particular lock (and some others), they use a “whisper mode”, means your z-wave dongle needs to physically be as close in proximity to Home Assistant as possible.
For my house, I had to be within 5 feet otherwise it simply wouldn’t unpair/pair.
Put Home Assistant into Z-Wave Exclusion
Open Home Assistant and go to Z-Wave JS.
Settings > Devices and Services > Integrations > Z-Wave
Then, click Configure.
Select “Remove Device”, then Start Exclusion
Next, I had to remove the cover from the inside portion of the lock.
The lock should be in the “unlocked” position, with the deadbolt inside the door.
Then, press and hold the “Program” button, and reinsert the battery pack.
You should now see a red light on your unit. After a few seconds, Home Assistant should report that it has been removed from your network! If it doesn’t say that right away, try manually locking the door and it should trigger it to exclude successfully.
